# API key

> Create or refresh the key the Chrome extension will use to save into your library.

The API key is how a browser extension saves a page or a file into your library. The Chrome extension is not available yet. You can create the key now and keep it for when the extension is released. See [Chrome extension](/save/extension).

Open Settings, then API.

  <Step title="Create a key">
    If no key exists yet, the page says so. Choose **Create key**.

  <Step title="Copy it">
    The key is shown once. Choose Copy key. After you leave the page, ReadMeliora will not show that key again. It will only say that a key is active, when it was created, and when it was last used.

  <Step title="Refresh it">
    Choose **Refresh key** to replace the current key. The previous key stops working. The new key is shown once.
