# Export a backup with the API key

> Start a full library export from a script with the same API key the Chrome extension uses.

The same [API key](/settings/api-key) the Chrome extension uses can also start a library export from a script. This is useful for a scheduled backup.

Send the key and the export options to `https://readmeliora.com/api/export`:

```bash theme={null}
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -X POST https://readmeliora.com/api/export \
  -d "{\"preset\":\"everything\",\"scope\":\"all\"}"
```

The response contains an `id`. ReadMeliora builds the file in the background. Ask for the download with that id:

```bash theme={null}
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY" \
  https://readmeliora.com/api/export/EXPORT_ID/download \
  -o backup.zip
```

`preset` is `everything` for articles, files, highlights, feeds, and data. Use `links`, `obsidian`, or `custom` to narrow the export. `scope` is `all`, `inbox`, `library`, or `archive`.

<Note>
  Each export stays available for 12 hours. You can start two exports every six hours.
